Kitchen— Our Fine Haven

Kitchen is our favourite area in the house. Kitchen, since time immemorial, is one big studio of artworks for sale for most women. We love big kitchen where we can cook our specialties. But just as cooking is expensive so is a beautiful fine kitchen. The real deal is the kind of kitchen a woman has, most of the time, matches the food she prepares.

Men are great cook. Most of the time, they can cook delicious food in any given place as long as there is stove, pans, and flame and the right ingredients for cooking. But for most women, especially for modern women, cooking requires not just conducive area to cook but a kitchen that pleases the eyes. Pots and pans maybe few but they should be of fine-grade, as well.  Such kitchens suit big houses as if the woman of the house caters for the entire village every given meal. But this is a no-no to small flats where it is just a kitchenette that is provided. Yet, this little Asian art should be as conducive and beautiful as big kitchens where cook enjoys cooking.  After all, food tastes wonderful when it is prepared with love and happiness and when not treated as mere household chores to cook. A gorgeous or cute kitchen gives the same effect to the one preparing the dish. This, with nice kitchenware and dishes will make the food more palatable. Plus, the fact that we are inspired to make special preparation than the usual food we eat in a daily basis when there is beauty all around us just as how fine our kitchen is so is the dish we want to prepare. If we can only put some garnishing of reds, oranges, and greens in a wide plate we will if and only if we will not tap ourselves that it is just us and a toddler who will be dining at home. Otherwise, a bottle of chilled red wine along with steak and greens will be a regular delight.

Dining is leisure just as going to the theatre and strolling to places. And because of the pleasure it gives, it is costly. Therefore, to minimize the cost of fine dining, we need to create a pleasing meal time at home. And one prerequisite of this is an inspiring kitchen of whether it is big to suit a mansion house of just a cute kitchenette present in flats. Oh heaven, kitchen is a beauty—of whether it is European or Asian art!

And this time for October we first dwell on posting nice kitchen finds we got from the net. And because our theme for the month onwards will be country style, then so be it. But first we start with a touch of contemporary design. Classic country style designed kitchen is outmoded but it remains homey. All we need is a modern touch-ups and that is what we have.

Modern Country-Style for October Onwards

Country style interior design may be traditional. But no other design can be so homey than this kind.  Corporate offices and residential interior are well delineated from each other with country style to make our house give us a feel of home-sweet-home! And true, wall paintings are more venerated in such style than laminates, highly glossed wall, or mirrored walls.

Country-style design is old fashion yet we miss the tall plants in the corner, the light blue floral wall framed with white cornices, the woven rocking chair, and the busy design of everything from living area to kitchen. The house is just stuffed. And instead of keeping the small details in the house inside a built-in cabinet, we just want them arranged somewhere— a specific table for this, an open shelf, or even atop our hanging kitchen cabinet where in between these items are pots with plants. It is quite far from what is in today most especially if we dwell within the commercial hub.  In our flats is where minimalism reigns. Our pad will be contemporary as long as we leave the artworks with the interior structure. We make the wall glass—smoked, frozen, or just plain clear. We choose plain shades of mocha, grey, or a bit gloomy shade of white as wall paint or perhaps laminates of designs and patterns are better. After that, we select a few modern furniture. And anything extra we keep them in cabinets, hidden!  This is in. This is fad. This is lifestyle yet we wonder why in times of stress, we want to fly somewhere else and be temporarily cradled by bed with sheets that have ruffles and frills, by room with printed drapes and ribbons to tie them, with walls that are not glass and glossy but wood in white and where small stuffs are arranged in display—even groceries too are treated like artworks for sale!  We know that kind of style is where our generation grows up and such ambiance feels like being equated to fresh milk, fresh air, and edible greens, and palatable cooking.

There is too much beauty in traditional interior design.  It makes a home to look like home.  It is place which food is not just a phone away but we see our folks in apron busy preparing food for us. And truly, it is also a place where cooking seems a catering in a daily basis and where breathing of air does not entail inhaling pollutants. And this feeling is what exactly country-style interior designing gives us.

So from October onwards, it is all about country style design that we will be posting on here. But not far from what is in today, we will deviate from truly conventional to country style with modern touch-ups. After all, we can't live backwards.

Walls are not just made alive by wall paintings, murals, or paint. Wallpaper plays a major role in the overall interior of the house. It comes with design that we are left with option if we will leave it as it is or perhaps still adorn the wall with fine arts.

September will be a moth of wallpaper. It comes with different textures, design, materials, and surely of varying cost. When is expression unjust?

To what extent Asian art can express inner thoughts, belief, and opinions? Images speak so aloud that the viewer can discern what the story behind is all about. Putting a thing to what people can see is actualization of a vision which most of the time is simply brought by imagination or creativity. Say what you must. Write what you must. Choose your medium.

Recently, local art scene in the Philippines was bombarded by two conflicting opinions. From the judgment of many Filipinos founded by the strong influence of culture, tradition, and the dominant influence of Roman Catholicism in the society vis-a- vis national artists who see no issues at all over the most talked artworks publicly displayed. The fight over a controversial art exhibit is triggered by a fight between good and evil. Which delineates evil from good has not anything to do with religion. Our sense of morality and the human judgment to what is good is not always itemized as commandments or laws. Yes, we differ in beliefs. Yet, we know what will hurt other people. Then, say what you must. Write what you must. Choose your medium-- be it wall painting or poetry. Just try not get anyone hurt. Hurting is intentional. We humans know when to hurt others because we know when they hurt us, too. This goes the same as to when we can't inflict pain because chances are pain avenges pain, not unless the retaliation is based on something that is not founded by good judgment.

Creating a distorted or disfigured image of a religious icon for public display is unjustifiable if we speak of moral grounds, or better yet if we speak of consideration to human feelings. We might be against belief on worshipping religious icons. But if one comes to think of it, the ones who desire them damaged are the people who believe more that such icons can make or break them. Religious icons can be made of wood, clay, or just simply painted as an altar piece. Such too are work of art. They did not hit anyone. Not in a chance that one of them extended their arms to poke someone who bowed before them. Simply put, these icons did not inflict pain to anyone in the world. The people who bowed before them sin just like everybody else. They were hit by a society and treated just like how a usual criminal was treated. But what about the rest whose minds and hearts are pure seeking refuge to these icons as the ones to comfort them? They were in pain because the one they love was disrespected, not to mention that the one they love is innocent. Then, what makes it deserve such mockery and insult!

Many people do not believe in ghost. The thought of ghost terrifying an individual is fun to many. Those who didn't believe will in no way be scared that a soul of a dead body comes back to haunt us. The moment they felt terrified over the thought and later on got affected  only insinuates that they too believe but perhaps, just in denial which somehow makes us conclude that the people behind the controversial art are not non-believers but subconsciously were hurting and no one is somewhere around willing to assume the blame. A speech can be damaging. Your words are okay a second ago and in an instant can change to curses due to pain within that won't go. Give or take a minute and you asked the heavens what prompted you to say it. Yes, words when unmasked or uncensored are triggered by emotion. But  an artwork as that of fine arts or other visual arts like wall painting which take a month or more to come up with a theme, design, style, and overall presentation is not in, anyway, triggered by a compulsive emotion but well-framed thoughts which means the people behind such controversial Asian art is in their right frame of minds.

Then we ask when expression unjust? If arts reflect your longing, your pain, or a distraction of yourself, then so be it but if it is damaging to other people, there is a need then to think twice.

Businesses are equated to money. There is money gained and money invested. The work office is where money dwells of whether the financial status is a credit or a deficit. What is a corporate art? Let us define it as an aesthetic expression and representation of the nature of the business in an art form. For a work-from-home mom, she has to make sure first that the ambiance of her house will be conducive to work. She may not put an expensive wall painting in front of her or place a giant bronze statue in her lawn but she will make sure that wherever angle she throws her glance is well-kept and pleasing to her eyes. Otherwise, her work is a mess or if not, she may still deliver an excellent work yet within her is a dissatisfied lonely worker which goes the same with those who land a job outside staying at a place not conducive enough to work.

Corporate interior cannot just be wall-sized blinds and a dull-color floor carpet. There has to be something that will catch the workers,as well as the visiting customer's eyes. And just like any interior designing at home which needs to fit in to the lifestyle, then so is corporate art. The business which nature of market revolves around modern young ones need an interior designing of more hip colors and designs. Mona Lisa, no matter how elegant and expensive will not work but surely will be an eye-stopper to museums or major financial institutions. It is all about the overall look of the place seen in the first glance.
